The creative collective, Kaoso draws its inspiration from the first collaborations between Marie-Christine Simoneau and Mathieu Riel with La Foire aux Immortels and Tuyö in 2013. In 2014, Marie-Christine assisted Mathieu on the creation of Tandem Olympique, a traveling show that has since been presented over 100 times across Quebec. Subsequently, they co-created Tea Time (2014) and Curiosités Mystiques (2015), two interactive installations that highlight the aesthetic elements they have in common. Curiosités Mystiques boasts over 75 performances. Since 2017, the two artists have been working on Voyageurs, a concept combining stilt, clown, puppet and rain effects. In 2018, thanks in part to financial support from CAM, Voyageurs became a fixed immersive show. It is both a theater of proximity, in intimate relationship with the spectators, and a poetic tableau that can be observed from afar. Voyageurs is a springboard, showcasing the physical and interactive qualities of its performers, the aesthetics of its creators, the inventiveness of its designers and the audacity of its artists. A challenge worthy of their respective qualities. Voyageurs is a show designed for national and international presentation. A presentation at the Sziget Festival in Hungary was scheduled for August 2020, with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. Unfortunately, the tour was postponed due to the pandemic. In spring-summer 2020, an adaptation of the fixed show and a touring version were conceived, in order to comply with current sanitary measures and meet presenter demand. Since autumn 2020, the collective has been working on a new project: Poussières d’étoiles. The two artists are also involved in Carmagnole Productions’ new creation Les Érotisseries, scheduled for performance at Espace Libre in May 2022. Both projects are supported by the Conseil des Arts de Montréal.
