In winter 2023, a puppet specialist visited students in class. She gave an overview of this theatrical art form (origins, puppet styles, types of manipulation, etc.). Then, in the workshop, students began technical exercises on face and body proportions, before drawing their characters. Each student was asked to explore 3 different figure models to reflect an emotion or character trait. Finally, the student chose a model to transpose into 3D. They began by modeling the head, then making the clothes, and finally assembling the parts and arranging the chopsticks for manipulation.
This exhibition showcases the work of first-year high school students in the Performing Arts and Crafts program at Jonquière’s École secondaire des Bâtisseurs.
